Ozone

O3Ozone simply is not just a protective layer which spreads above above our heads at the height 25 to 35 kilometers above Earth surface.

Ozone – active oxygen, is an incredibly versatile and active element which has a significant effect on the human organism as well as on the whole Earth. 

The ozone molecule consists of three oxygen atoms, while the regularly present oxygen we normally breath contains two oxygen atoms.

Ozone is formed by the effect of electrical discharges in the air or short-wave ultraviolet radiation (UV-C) which strike ordinary oxygen molecules. This happens in a two-step reactive process: in the first step, the delivered energy breaks an oxygen molecule which forms two separate oxygene atoms; these atoms are in fact two highly reactive single-atom radicals which immediately pair with a free electron originating from another biradical oxygen molecule. This process forms the resulting trioxygen, the inorganic molecule termed ozone.

At normal temperature and regular air pressure conditions in the ambience, ozone appears as a blue gas with a pungent odour that we can perceive at concentrations lower than 0,1 ppm (sensitivity differs individually). During cooling, ozone condenses to a dark blue liquid and then turns into a dark blue solid substance. Ozone is a strong oxidizer, and its reaction

decomposes into normal oxygen. The reaction accelerates with rising temperature and air pressure. The ozone-oxygen cycle which involves ozone decomposition into diatomic (ordinary) oxygen, is accelerated in the presence of certain chemical compounds or radicals, i.e. fluorine and chlorine atoms (see ozone layer tag). Higher concentrations of ozone result in a harmful substance. Low concentrations of ozone were proven to have caused mutagenicity of bacteria, while higher concentrations of ozone were proven to have a liquidating effect on microorganisms.
